Transactions & Insights

Ask Finn about your spending, income, and transactions in plain language and get clear, useful answers.

Overview

Finn connects to your bank accounts and gives you a conversational way to explore your financial activity. Instead of scrolling through banking apps or spreadsheets, you can ask Finn questions in everyday language and get answers based on your real data.

Key Benefits

  • Plain language: Ask questions the way you'd ask a friend — "How much did I spend on food last month?"
  • Real data: Answers come from your actual connected accounts, not estimates
  • Charts on demand: Ask Finn to visualize your spending and it generates charts right in the conversation
  • Custom categories: Reclassify transactions or create rules so your data is organized the way you think about it

What you can ask

Finn understands a wide range of financial questions. Here are some examples:

Spending

  • "How much did I spend last week?"
  • "What did I spend on restaurants this month?"
  • "Show me my biggest purchases in April"
  • "How does my spending this month compare to last month?"

Income

  • "How much did I earn last month?"
  • "When was my last paycheck?"
  • "What's my expected income this month?"

Transactions

  • "Show me all my Amazon purchases"
  • "Did I get charged by Netflix this month?"
  • "What was that $47 charge on Tuesday?"

Trends

  • "Show me my spending by category"
  • "Graph my spending over the last 3 months"
  • "What are my top 5 merchants this month?"

Transaction tools

Under the hood, Finn has access to several tools to answer your questions:

ToolWhat it does
Time range queriesPull transactions for any date range you mention
Category breakdownsGroup spending by category (food, transport, shopping, etc.)
Merchant analysisSee how much you spend at specific stores or services
Value filtersFind transactions above or below a certain amount

Categorization

Finn automatically categorizes your transactions using data from your bank and its own enrichment. If a transaction is categorized incorrectly, you can fix it:

  • Reclassify a transaction: Tell Finn to change the category — "Move that Costco charge to groceries"
  • Create a categorization rule: Tell Finn to always classify a merchant a certain way — "Always categorize Costco as groceries"
  • View your rules: Ask Finn to list your custom categorization rules
  • Delete a rule: Remove a rule you no longer need

Categorization rules apply going forward and help Finn get smarter about your spending over time.

Visualizations

Finn can generate charts and graphs on request to help you see your financial data visually:

  • Bar charts: Compare spending across categories or time periods
  • Line charts: Track trends over time (spending, income, balances)
  • Pie charts: See proportional breakdowns of your spending

Just ask — "Show me a pie chart of my spending this month" or "Graph my income over the last 6 months."

Charts are delivered directly in your conversation, whether you're chatting in the app or via text.

Finn's transaction tools work with your real connected account data. The more accounts you connect, the more complete your financial picture becomes.
